Music

Sometimes I take off my painter hat and put on my musician hat. I’ve been a part of several bands with many incredible musicians, and have produced two solo albums as well. Most of you will find them to be unlistenably weird, but some of you may really enjoy them. Check ’em all out below!

Tonda Gossa (2013-Present)

LISTEN

Tonda Gossa is my current project. I suppose you could describe us as keyboard-driven dance rock, with a hearty dose of bizarre. Melodic, driving, quirky yet elegant, this band draws on such influences as Genesis, Zappa, King Crimson, and classic video game music from the 90’s. Our second album "Crown" is coming very soon!

Magical Pig (2014-2016)

LISTEN

Magical Pig is a collaboration between myself and my good friend Dallas Sinquefield, who was a core member of The Grimpths with me years earlier. Our band name is a reference to Frank Zappa's album "Joe's Garage", specifically the song "Stick It Out". Our sound is eclectic, borrowing from such diverse influences as Tool, They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, Phish, Zappa, Run the Jewels, and Glass Animals. Our debut EP Saguaro is a heartbreaking meditation on loss, transformation, and hope.

Solo Work (2011-2013)

LISTEN

I’ve released a full-length LP (Simian Experiment) and a four-song EP (Waygooken) as a solo artist, as well as a few b-sides on a little single/EP called Fueling the Darwin Machine. These songs tend to take a more introspective, emotional tone than my collaborations, and are primarily influenced by such bands as Incubus, Tool, Frank Zappa, Primus, TV on the Radio, Yes, and more.

The Bloop (2009-2012)

LISTEN

Perhaps our wackiest project, The Bloop is a wild ride through a veritable cornucopia of genres, styles, and textures. Infused with an absurd sense of humor throughout, this album is heavily influenced by the work of Frank Zappa, Primus, King Crimson, Ween, and many others.

All Things Glowing Brightly (2007-2010)

LISTEN

ATGB is a fun and thoughtfully constructed project with one LP (self-titled) and one two-song single (A Ghosty Told Me). The music could be described as “joyously apocalyptic electro dance rock,” but even that won’t do us justice. This is possibly my most accessible and generally palatable project. Featuring Ransom Wydner on vocals, Jack Young on guitar, Karhl Edwards on keyboards, my brother Curt Tuckfield on bass, and myself on drums.

The Grimpths (2006 - 2009)

LISTEN

The Grimpths is our most technical and progressive project. Fast-paced, intense, dynamic, and fearless, The Grimpths EP Seed was produced by well-known recording guru Matt Winegar (who produced the Primus albums “Suck on This” and “Frizzle Fry”). This exuberant little EP draws from a wide range of influences: Zappa, King Crimson, Primus, the Beatles, the Zombies, and many others.

Circular Logic (2005 - 2006)

LISTEN

Circular Logic is a fairly rough, adorable demo that I made with my friends back in college. You could think of it as "proto-All Things Glowing Brightly". It features vocals by the immensely talented Carleton Bluford, and has a much poppier flavor than the rest of the albums here. This one is really only for those die-hards who want to ponder how a musician like me can evolve over time, because it is definitely my early work...
